BID MANAGER

Bernadette is the strategic lead for the Tawa Business Group with a clear focus on advocating for, supporting and working with business and property owners whilst also working closely with external stakeholders. Bernadette initiates and manages various projects and services that promote the Tawa business community and improve the vibrancy of the town centre in accordance with the Business Plan. Progress on the Plan is reported to the Executive Team each month.

Tony Afendoulis

​Business Owner / Manager for Lowe and Co Tawa

As the Owner/Manager of Lowe and Co Tawa, I oversee our real estate services catering to Tawa and its environs since January 15, 2023. Officially launched on June 30, 2023, we offer obligation-free property appraisals and expert guidance for homeowners, aiming to optimize their investments. We assist both buyers and sellers, aiding vendors in property preparation and marketing while helping buyers find their ideal homes. Beyond business, I indulge in wine, walks, and community engagement as a Tawa Lion and active bid exec member, dedicated to enhancing both business and community for a better Tawa.

Richard Herbert

Executive Committee 

A Tawa resident for some 45 years, Richard retired ten years ago after 40 years in the telecommunications industry, mostly in the mobile network design area.
Now active in a number of local Tawa organisations, a member and past president of Tawa Rotary, past president and committee member for Friends of Tawa Bush Reserves since 2002, and on executive committees of Tawa Residents Assn, Tawa Historical Society, Pest Free Tawa, Secretary for the Camp Elsdon Board of Management, Secretary for Tawa Probus, and Treasurer for Tawa RSA. Richard has also completed three terms on the Tawa Community Board. In business Richard now undertakes admin work for his son’s electricians business and has a strong interest in renewable energy systems – he’s the proud owner of an electric car.

Gary Denton

BID CHAIR AND TREASURER

Gary Denton has been in business as a Chartered Accountant from his office at 173 Main Road in Tawa since 1993. Gary has lived in Tawa most of his life attending local schools and Tawa College. He had both playing and governance roles with the Tawa Cricket and Rugby Clubs and is a Life Member of the Tawa Volunteer Fire Brigade where he provided 37 years of service to the community including a period as Chief Fire Officer.

Tawa Books & Post is a cherished local gem since 1992, helmed by dedicated owners Karen & Steve. As they step into retirement, a new era begins with Paul Brown at the helm. Nestled within our inviting atmosphere, discover a treasure trove of books, games, stationery, and art supplies. Beyond our shelves, we proudly serve as a NZ Post agency, facilitating local and international mail, bill payments, and as the last bastion of banking in Tawa, a Kiwibank transactional branch. Beyond work, Paul likes to spend time with his friends and family, and cooking BBQ's on a weekend.

TAWA BID AREA

If your property or business is located within the Tawa BID boundary, but you are not yet a Member of the Tawa Business Group, please email info@tawabusiness.co.nz and you will be sent the relevant forms to confirm your membership and to provide your business information for the business directory listing.

The Tawa Business Group is funded by way of a targeted rate, which is levied on and collected from non-residential properties within a defined boundary. Businesses located outside that defined boundary area are welcome to join the Tawa Business Group as an Associate Member.

The annual fee for Associate Membership is $350 + GST.

Tawa Valley Pathway – Ara Tawa is a 7.9 km cycling and walking path that follows the Porirua stream from Willowbank Reserve in Tawa to Porirua.

Metlink runs a corner-to-corner on-demand bus service in Tawa and Grenada North with no set routes or stops, use the app to schedule pick-ups and drop-offs.
